Going up to FC here.
You'll notice that the message came from my computer at home.
It's the rig I set up specifically for the HP Mini 1116NR netbook, bought used on ebay- previous owners trashed the flash hard drive for privacy concerns. HP Minis usually comes with a pathetically small hard drive. Lousy if you're planning on doing everything on it. It uses Flash-based SSD Zero Insertion Force hard drives, something not easy to get. I also had to order from HP, a set of install CDs, which only will install on a HD, nothing USB or SD Card. Same goes for my copy of "TinyVista." HP's Linux-based "Mobile Internet Experience" kept bugging me for the missing hard drive. I ordered a new drive, it never arrived in time for FC. Ah, well. I'm using Ubuntu Netbook edition, installed on a C-2 speed 8 GB SD card.
What's working for me is that I put the Linux Wine pack of Teamviewer on it, and then use the computer at home through the EVDO modem. This moves the traffic load to the home computer, which is unrestricted. The traffic I use on the modem is just the video, keyboard, and mouse interface.
Okay, enough of that. Let's enjoy the con! Tags: netbook ubuntu hp mini ssd drive
